In January the price of a kilogram of Brand X rice was $7.60. In May, the price of a kilogram of Brand X became $8.80. The increase in price is 8.8 - 7.2 = 1.2

As a percentage of the original price the increase in the price of rice is `(1.2/7.6)*100% ` = 15.79%

The price of rice increased by 15.79%
