If someone is suffering from indigestion and doesn't have an appetite, what might they do?

Mayo Clinic online explains indigestion as a collection of symptoms, not a disease, saying that periodic indigestion is very common (except when symptoms of indigestion are related to food allergies). Mayo Clinic also explains when normal indigestion becomes a medical concern because of additional symptoms. Loss of appetite is one of the additional symptoms that moves indigestion from "normal" to "needing medical attention." Therefore, if someone has indigestion and has no appetite, the thing that person should do is to contact a doctor without delay.

Mild indigestion is usually nothing to worry about. Consult your doctor if discomfort persists for more than two weeks. Contact your doctor right away if pain is severe or accompanied by:

  • Unintentional weight loss or loss of appetite (Mayo Clinic)

One thing you can do is try changing the time of day you eat.  My grandmother has found that she does not get indigestion as long as she eats dinner before 4:00.  She can eat a light snack later in the evening, but if she eats a big meal she gets sick.

They ought to consult their physician if this continues for any significant length of time. There are many things it could be and a simple endoscopy can rule out many of them.

One step to take when any health problem emerges is to drink more water. Dehydration can cause all sorts of symptoms and health problems, which can be easily taken care of. Also, flushing the body's system with fluids can help to eliminate toxins and other things, encouraging health in doing so.
