Sometimes the passages that appear in this type of question are suggestive of the theme of the work. Sometimes they point to character development or conflict. After reading a passage in question, ask yourself why this particular passage is significant. What is its importance in relation to the work overall? Does it suggest anything about a particular character or conflict in the work? Sometimes a passage will have key words that are very strong in connotative meaning that will help you relate it to theme, character, or conflict.
