When explaining a painting it is important to examine the following. Start out with a brief history of the artist and why he painted it. Describe what was going on in his life to create the masterpiece. Mention his style of painting in relation to the era of Impressionism. Investigate the techniqueshe uses, with color, subject, texture, lighting, setting. Describe how this painting relates to the lifestyle in the era of the artists. Finally comment on what you see Van Gogh reflecting in relation to your own feelings about his intentions. Research other relevant facts to compare with other artists in the same time period if necessary to concur with your description.
