How are Winston and Julia betrayed?
1 Answer | add yours
Winston and Julia are betrayed by Mr Charrington who owns the second hand shop in which they hold their secret lover's meetings. He rents them a room upstairs. They are misled into believing that Mr Charrington is a harmless old man, particularly as the shop is in the district where the proles live (the ordinary members of the public who do not belong to the Party). However, Charrington is really a member of the Thought Police in disguise. It also turns out that there is a telescreen hidden behind a picture on the wall in Winston and Julia's room.
