How does News From Nowhere show the advantages and disadvantages of a capitalist society?
1 Answer | Add Yours
Disadvantages of capitalism are prominent in Morris's Utopian novel; after all, he does consider industrial capitalism "sordid, aimless, ugly confusion." Morris argues that true art is impossible in a capitalistic society; even his own writing comes under that sentencing. Patrick Bratlinger, in his article, "News From Nowhere: Morris's Socialist Anti-Novel" says that the author is "hostile to virtually every aspect of "the great tradition" of Victorian literature."
