How does James treat Kate Keller rudely at the beginning of the book and how does he change towards her?

James resents his mother for paying so much attention to Helen and her problems. He feels he's been abandoned by her, and his stepfather isn't the kind of man who would offer much comfort. James makes rude comments to Kate and makes fun of Helen and how she rules their home.

He treats her bad because kate gets her way with his father, in what happens with helen. at the end he changes his view.
