how do you find X in the equation: (X*Y)=X?

### 1 Answer | Add Yours

To solve the X*Y = X for X:

X*Y = X

=> X*Y - X = 0

=> X(Y - 1) = 0

This is possible if X = 0 or if Y - 1 = 0

In the former case X = 0, the latter case gives a value for Y, i.e. Y = 1. X can take on any value if Y = 1.

**The solution of the equation is X = 0**
