How does the dynamics in a piece of music contribute to the overall timbre of a piece? Also, what are articulation patterns in a piece of music?

When an instrument blows louder, its tone changes. For example, in a euphonium, it changes from a very mellow sound to a more bold sound. This of course changes the timbre of the music.
