Since water does not interact with with them, non polar covalent molecules will not dissolve in water. Non polar compounds are soluable in non polar solvants. Nurses have to keep this in mind since drugs have to be soluable to enter the body. Non polar molecules can dissolve through a cell membrane and therefore can be applied as skin patches or suppositories. These non polar drugs have a longer retention time in the body than polar drugs.
