How could "The Miracle Worker" be considered a love letter and to which character was the love letter directed to?

The Miracle Worker can be considered a love letter to Helen Keller's teacher, Annie Sullivan, who rescued Helen from a life of darkness and silence. By successfully -- and with great struggle-- helping Helen to make the connection between word and reality, symbol and world, she assisted the little blind and deaf girl to become a famous writer and Socialist thinker.

The first word Helen learned, "Water," could be seen as a symbol for the basis of life-- though it probably WAS the first word she learned and connected, through finger spelling, to the actual thing itself.
