Certainly, the hope  in following the benchmarks of multicultural instruction, teachers become effective instructors in their schools and to their students.  One of the most critical benchmarks of multicultural education exists in providing culturally relevant instruction.  This benchmark of multicultural education helps to connect instruction with the lives of students, enabling them to feel interconnected with what is happening in the content as it validates their voice.  Such an idea helps to make instructors more effective because students recognize that the instruction and teacher is concerned with their experiences be reflected in the curriculum. Bonds are formed and these bonds can be pivoted into generating worthwhile instruction and enhancing academic achievement.

Another benchmark that can be followed in the multicultural classroom is empowering school culture.  This benchmark stresses that multicultural education is geared towards removing obstacles to progressive action in school and family settings.  Multicultural education is driven by the notion of empowering school and local communities to become more involved and active in the education of children.  When teachers embrace and act upon this element of multicultural education, the result is that they become more effective in the classroom setting.  They are more effective in the instructional setting because they are not merely content with being immersed in content.  As they wish for their students, these educators wish to transform the community around them into an agent of change and action.  This creates greater effectiveness in the students, school, and community.
