An integrated delivery system is a health care system that is made up of several different components, generally hospitals, clinics, long term care faciltiies and possibly home care. Integrated delivery systems reduce costs and improve health care quality.
Integraged delivery systems reduce costs for both the patient and the organization. In an integrated delivery system, administrative processes may be centralized and overhead may be reduced. This results in a lower cost being passed on to the patient.
Patients further benefit from the integrated delivery system through health care quality. Because many of the services are part of one organization, continuity of care is better managed. Records are maintained within one system, and providers are better able to communicate regarding patient care.
