How long did it take Piglet to reach Pooh's house from the time he left his house?

Winnie-the-pooh and Piglet decided to visit one another and set at the same time to each other's houses. When they met each other on the road joining their houses, they forgot that they wanted to see each other and continued walking. Winnie-the-pooh reached Piglet's house 8 mins after the meeting and Piglet reached Winnie-the-pooh's house 18 mins after the meeting.

Let the distance of meeting point from Winnie and Piglet house be Dw and Dp respectively.

Let the speed of Winnie and Piglet be Sw and Sp

Let the time taken by each to reach the meeting point be t

t = distance/speed = Dw/Sw = Dp/Sp

or Dw/Dp = Sw/Sp ................. (1)

Time take be Winnie and Piglet to the others hhouse is 18 and 8 minutes

so speed of Winnie Sw = Dp/8

and speed of Piglet Sp = Dw/18

therefore Sp/Sw = 8/18 * (Dw/Dp) ........ (2)

Substituting value of Dw/Dp from (1) in (2), we get

Sp/Sw = 8/18 * (Sw/Sp)

(Sp/Sw)^2 = 8/18 = 4/9

Sp/Sw = 2/3

Piglet's time to reach Winnie's house from his house = t + 18

= 18*Dp/Dw +18 = 18*Sp/Sw +18 = 18*2/3 + 18

= 12 + 18 = 30 minutes

* Time taken by Piglet to reach Pooh's house *from the time he left his house

**is 30 minutes.**thanks!that helped a lot!:D

The time taken by Piglet to reach Winnie's house is the sum of time taken by Piglet:

1) to reach the meeting point, assumed to be 't' and

2) to reach Winnie's house from the meeting point which is 18 minutes

We know that t = Dw/Sw

We also know that speed of Piglet Sp = Dw/18 or Dw = 18Sp

Therefore t = Dw/Sw = 18Sp/Sw, substituting value of Dw as 18Sp

we also know that Sp/Sw = 2/3

Hence t = 18*2/3 = 12

I hope know you understand why we multiply 2/3 by 18.

najm,y bother multiplying 2/3 by 18 ??

How do you get sp/sw= 2/3?
