In a piece of creative writing, do you have any ideas for the middle of the story?
It is all set in present time. It will end with her finally leaving the room, to find her mother lying there dead. She is numb with fear and can't move. It is about a girl who has locked herself in the downstairs toilet out of fear and she can hear her father beat her mother. It's about the thoughts in her head and her listening to it.

This depends on how you see your story forming. Perhaps from the entering of the bathroom until the emerging from it, this girl can be huddled between the toilet and remembering the 'happy times' of the family. Between each memory of say, a beach scene, a family picnic, you can cut back to her and hearing the screams and fighting of her mom and her dad. You will have a lot of imagery and creative language in this story and will be difficult for some to read. If you have read "A Child Called It" by David Pelzer, you can become more familiar with how abuse can effect a child. Granted the child is the one being beaten, some of the association is still there. Most children separate themselves from their environment when faced with abuse so go with something like that.
The second link I provided is a domestic violence essay about how children are "abuse-recorders". I hope that helps.
