H.G. Wells The War of the Worlds, people's fear and confidence in science

Well's tension during 19th c (and present) confidence in science and technology with the 19th century (and present)fear that this confidence in misplaced. Give examples from the text how war of the worlds balances this. You’ll need to actually find at least three quotes and explain how they maintain this balance.

It's difficult to understand the question as presently written.  If this is an assignment you have been given by a teacher, might it be possible to get the teacher to put the question in writing?  It sounds as if you may have transcribed it.  Once the question has been more clearly stated, you are likely to receive many more replies.
