A card is chosen from a deck of 52 playing cards. The probability of choosing either a 7 or a jack has to be determined. This is quite easy to do. There are 4 cards with the number 7 and 4 cards that have a jack.
The total number of options available when picking the card is 52. The number of favorable options is 4 + 4 = 8.
The required probability is the number of favorable options divided by the total number of options. This is equal to 8/52 = 2/13
The probability of choosing a 7 or a jack is 2/13.
