With friends like those portrayed in "Dubliners"...who needs enemies.

See "A Little Cloud" and the interplay between Little Chandler and Gallagher. It's a boxing match between the two. Heavy condesation, jelousy, and a re-eveluation of concieved friendship. Funny..."friend" is one of the oft repeated word in the story...and "little" of course.

Also see "Two Gallants" and the oddness of that "friendship"

In "counterparts" Farringtons "friends"  simply use him to obtain

drinks in the pubs.
