In Fahrenheit 451, why were the alarms to burn always at night?

Montag said that they were always at night because it was prettier.
p39 "Is it because fire is prettier by night?"
In the book, Montag asks the same question. He comes to a conclusion that the alarms are at night because they are prettier at night.
