Strategic management is the overarching examination of organizations top managements administrative practices. It deals with their leadership in terms of the internal and external factors that effect and an organization and their ability to align corporate and strategic priorities.

The adaptive mode in strategic management is a reference to a phase in an organizations development where long term strategic decisions align closely with short term strategy. In the adaptive mode plans are dynamic and change in accordance with the changing environment. This mode can at times be disorganized as the environment in which the organization operates in can be in constant flux.
