Eveline is obviously servile because when she dreams of escape with Frank she imagines that others will think that she is a fool and that Miss Gavan would be glad.
On the other hand, she hopes that a change will bring her respect and not be treated as her mother, who had been a victim of her father's violence. Had she the courage to take the leap of faith with Frank, Eveline may have been able to attain some happiness, especially if he would stay with her and love and encourage her.
