In the end, how comic is The Merchant of Venice? Does the final act succeed in restoring comedy to the play?

"The Merchant of Venice" is a mix between a comedy drama play. although in the end the case of the Jewish man is very serious, Shakespeare is able to finish off the play with comedy when the two men are embarrassed by realizing what they have done and the fact that their wives were playing jokes on them.
Thanks alot:) much appreciated!!
