do you think there is any symbolism in the lion that was roaring in the bush that was killed by the two men and the marriage of the couple?

Possibly. The roaring of the lion symbolizes Francis starting to "roar", symbolizing his ascent into "manhood" and awakens in him the dire state of his marriage to Margot. The fact that it was killed by two men, much like his marriage was killed by two men, Francis by becoming a man and Wilson the safari guide, symbolizes the death of his marriage.
