Jane Eyre may be a straight-laced governess set in another century, but she is easy to empathize with. She had a difficult childhood and yet overcame that to became a moral and intelligent person. She also lived a very lonely life and yet found love in an unlikely place, a timeless and universal story that is endlessly appealing.
Her humble personality and quiet patience make her endearing. I found her inspiring in her independence, especially for a character during her time period. Despite her unyielding personality she reveals herself to be a romantic at heart, a quality that is certainly lovable.
