Let the smaller number be x.

The greater number is `-4/9`     (given)

So, according to the problem:

greater number - smaller number=`-6/25`

`rArr -4/9 - x=-6/25`

`rArr x=6/25-4/9=(54-100)/225=-46/225.`

Therefore, the smaller number is `-46/225` .
