The graph of a function f(x) intercepts the x-axis at the point (X, 0) where f(X) = 0

For the function y = x^2 - 2x - 24

x^2 - 2x - 24 = 0

=> x^2 - 6x + 4x - 24 = 0

=> x(x - 6) + 4(x - 6) = 0

=> (x + 4)(x - 6) = 0

=> x = -4 and x = 6

The x-intercepts of the function are (-4, 0) and 6, 0)
