According to Jim Stikeleather at Dell Services, the three types of innovation core technologies are:
- sustaining innovation
- breakthrough innovation
- disruptive innovation
Sustaining innovation applies to existing goods and services that are continually improved and enhanced to make them better and more profitable.
Breakthrough innovation refers to new technologies, products, services, or concepts that can be developed along new lines of patterns of usage and in new combinations.
Disruptive innovation introduces paradigm shifts through radically different conceptualizations of markets of products.
