Her personality is very reserved and standoffish.  This is why it is so hard for her to seem appealing during the interview process.  She seems angry at people all the time.  This is presumably because of the fact that she has been having to keep her emotions in check and not be vulnerable since her father died and her mother checked out emotionally.

Katniss is tough. She is also athletic, so the toughness is inside and outside. She is selfless in a lot of ways, and sacrifices herself for her sister. During the game and in later books she demonstrates cunning and a cool head. She even considers committing suicide to manipulate the game. She cares about others as much as herself.

The book mentioned that she had olive colored skin, dark hair, and dark eyes.  Like all children of the Seam, she was underweight due to the lack of basic food and nourishment available.  Obviously, personal hygene of today wasn't relevant to her society so she was very hairy by today's standards.

Olive coloured skin, dark brown hair and grey eyes. A classic combination for people from the Seam. :)
