This is an interesting question, which was originally placed under "Literature," because Man in Hiding is the film version of the novel, Queen in Danger, by Elleston Trevor, who wrote it using the pseudonym Simon Rattray. The film's flashbacks--reversions to earlier time periods--serve the purpose of disclosing information about the earlier murder that Speight was convicted and imprisoned for.
