Describe energy transfer of a body by radiation.
1 Answer | add yours
Radiation transfers energy via electromagnetic waves. Examples of these waves include, radio, tv, microwaves, infrared, visible light, ultra violet light, xrays, gamma rays. These are part of the electromagnetic spectrum. Objects with temperatures greater than zero degrees Kelvin emit radiation. When you place your hand above a fire, radiation makes your hand feel warm. The waves or particles travel through the air(a medium) to your hand. Radiation involves energetic particles or waves travelling through a medium or even the vacuum of space. These waves or particles radiate in all directions from a source. Radiation from the sun reaches Earth in this manner. Ionizing radiation which is radiation that can ionize an atom, can lead to DNA damage in organisms. This is found in cosmic rays, gamma rays, and X rays.
