Is is possible to compare Snookum and Janey from A Gathering of Old Men?

High School Teacher
I think the only comparison to be made here is the difference in attitudes toward the changing of the roles of African Americans. Janey is more comfortable in the old, established role as a house servant. It is all she knows, and she cautions Snookum about the way he should behave around the whites. Snookum is young, and is an example of the generation that would not look to be subservient to the whites. He is unafraid of testing his limits, while Janey is terrified of being without them.
