Charles Singleton and Dante's Divine Comedy

Charles singleton says, "The fiction of the Divine Comedy is that it is not a fiction" What do you think about this idea? Examples?

Yes it is, because it is a leterature, and literatures came from imaginations. But it does not mean that there is no hell. I think that the presence of mythological characters(heroes, and monsters) made it fictional. Punishments are real. And for those who think that religion related beliefs are fictional are does being punished in circle 6.
