I can usually do these, but this one has confused me and I need help.
Four times a number is four more than two times the number.
What's the number.

We use a letter to designate our mystery number, it doesn't matter what letter we use, but most use `x` Then we need to use the relationships in the story problem to set up an equation.
Four times the mystery number is `4x`
Four more than two times the number is `2x+4`
This gives us an equation `4x=2x+4` We subtract the `2x` from both sides of the equation to isolate like terms, and we get: `2x=4` We divide each side by 2 to isolate the variable `x` and we get `x=2` And that's your answer. The number is 2.
