Australia has significant hydrocarbon based energy sources. The main source is coal followed by liquified natural gas and then crude oil. According to the 2007 reports, Australia exports approximately 2/3 of its petroleum based energy.
Australia has abundant wind and solar energy possibilities, but these have not yet been put into reliable service across the nation. Biomass energy production is also relatively limited as Australia is mainly a desert location with ranches and farmland spread over the outback.
Australia has relatively few nuclear plants compared to the amount of carbon based energy production.
