Calculating the product of 1.5 squared is a trivial example.

1.5 = (1 +0.5) The 1 and 0.5 inside the brackets become the binomial.

1.5^2 = (1 + 0.5)^2 Expand the squared brackets:

= (1 + 0.5) x (1 + 0.5) 1 from the left bracket multiplies 1 then 0.5 in the right bracket. 0.5 from the left bracket multiplies 1 then 0.5 in the right bracket and the individual products are summed:

1.5^2 = (1 x 1) + (1 x 0.5) + (0.5 x 1) + (0.5 x 0.5) Evaluating contents of brackets:

1.5^2 = 1 + 0.5 + 0.5 + 0.25 **= 2.25 **
