Subtracting a negative number is the equivalent of adding a positive number:

`7k - -9 = 7k+9`

Therefore:

`7k+9lt44`

`7klt44-9`

`7klt35`

`klt35/7`

`klt5`

7k - -9 < 44 :

Simplify it to

7k + 9 < 44 : now subtract 9 from both sides

By subtracting, you should get

7k < 35 : now divide by 7 on both sides

By dividing , you should get

K < 5 which is your answer
