It isn't really accurate to say which gadgets work with alternating current (AC), and which ones work with Direct Current (DC), but I can explain to you that alternating current is more applicable when electricity is going through long distances. However, back to your original question, normally houshold appliances will run on AC rather than DC, since AC works better with motors AND is better with long distance transport.
