2(x + 5) = 5x + 20; solve for x

`2(x+5)=5x+20`

To start, distribute 2 to x+5.

`2x+2*5=5x+20`

`2x+10=5x+20`

Then, bring together the terms with x on one side of the equation. To do so, perform opposite operation.

`2x+10=5x+20`

`-2x` ` -2x`

`---------------`

`0 + 10 = 3x+20`

`10 = 3x+20 `

Also, bring together the terms without x.

`10 = 3x+20`

`-20` ` -20`

`---------------`

`-10=3x + 0`

`-10=3x`

Then, isolate x. Move 3 to the right side. To do so, perform opposite operation.

`-10/3=(3x)/3`

`-10/3=x`

**Hence, `x=-10/3` . **

-10/3

2(x + 5) = 5x + 20

2x+10-5x-20=0

-3x-10=-3x=10=x=-10/3
