The 1990’s was a landmark decade for scientific and technological milestones. Many innovations which have had a direct affect on our own lifestyle today came from the 1990’s.

One of the most important scientific advancements of the time period involved DNA. Not only was the Human Genome project begun, which eventually would map the entire human genome, but DNA in forensic analysis of crimes also became commonplace. DNA studies also led to the successful cloning of a sheep.

In the realm of Astronomy, black holes were confirmed as not just a theory, but a proven astronomical phenomenon. Construction was begun on the International Space Station in 1996, GPS satellites finally became fully operational and the Mars Rover was successfully deployed on the surface of the red planet.

There were also several important technological developments during the 1990’s. The computer industry grows by leaps and bound thanks to the introduction of HTML and the World Wide Web, which launch the internet age. Windows 95 and 98 become two of the best selling operating systems on the planet. E-mail, Ecommerce, Java and Linux are all introduced and popularized during this decade.

There were many consumer electronic innovations as well. MP3 players came on the market in the 90’s. DVD’s and Plasma televisions were also first released.
