Chinua Achebe, a Nigerian novelist, short-story writer, poet, and critic, is one of the most influential writers to come out of Africa. His first novel, Things Fall Apart (1958), sold more copies worldwide than any other African novel. He is also the author of several other novels, including Arrow of God (1964) and Anthills of the Savannah (1987). He lives in New York and teaches at Bard College.
