Bilbo is at advantage in this chapter, for he now has Gollum's ring and can become invisible. The dwarves do not heed Beorn's warning, and they leave the path while there. Their sense of taste is suffering, and they are eager for food. The have their sense of hearing, and they hear many odd sounds in the woods. Their sense of sight tells them that their is light off in the direction of the sounds. They give into their senses and leave the path, hoping for food. They are now trapped. The spider uses his sense of smell to locate the dwarves, and he wraps them up in cocoons, planning to hav them for his dinner. Bilbo, invisible, uses his sense of touch to find his way to where the dwarves are suspended in the trees and to save them.
