Posted by enotechris on Monday January 12, 2009 at 5:01 PMCanada had entered World War II ahead of the United States, and during the 1930's anti-asian sentiment had been been increasing. At one point, the Canadian government confiscated the fishing fleet of its own Canadian citizens of Japanese ancestry. Even before the attack on Pearl Harbor, Japanese-Canadians were sent to work camps and internment camps far from the West Coast; the volume increased after the attack and property was confiscated. Unlike the US, Canada continued to restrict its citizens after the war and did not make retribution for its confiscations.
