Alexander the Great (356 - 323 B.C.E.) was the king of Macedona, who then conquered and ruled one of the largest empires in history. Alexander's reign began in 336 B.C.E. and ended at his death in 323 B.C.E. He was only 32 years old.

The following are some his life's achievements:

    • His empire spanned from Greece and Macedona in the north to Egypt in the south, and to northern India in the east.
    • He spread a new form of internationalized Greek/Classical culture, that marked the Hellenistic Period.
    • He formed a prototype for the ruling of empires, that later influenced the Roman Empire.
    • He relied on Greek silver coins and Persian gold coins to create a unified economy throughout his empire.
