As such, there are now relatively few speakers of the language, and interestingly, there are dialects of it that are now mutually unintelligible. The standard version, or Classical Nahuatl, was the language of the Aztec Empire; the name "Nahuatl" itself means "clear sound" or "command." The last link has a brief history of the Nahua and a short dictionary.
