During World War I, the Communists, otherwise known as Bolsheviks, were led by Vladimir Lenin. Lenin led the Bolsheviks in a Russian Revolution. They overthrew Czar Nicholas II, creating the Communist government in Russia, now calling it the Soviet Union. The Soviet Union was a communist government until 1992. Today, Russia is a democracy.
