The 1910s were a time of great change in American industry. The managerial side of industry was growing and American corporations were reorganizing and becoming more efficient. Technology was available to make corporations run more smoothly and increase production. An example of this increased production is the Model T, which Henry Ford produced on an assembly line. The idea of an assembly line made production must faster and many items were made using this technique during 1910. The economy was booming and the United States was a leading exporter of manufactured goods. The decade of the 1910s had a massive impact on the economy.

The Progressive Movement was a response to the ills the industrial revolution created in the United States. One of the effects of the industrial revolution was the creation of a 'middle class' in America. Many of these 'progressive' people had a higher literacy rate than prior generations and believed that they could effect positive social, political and economic changes in America. The year 1910 began to reap the benefits of the progressive reforms such as the Food and Drug Administration and The Meat Inspection Act 1905-06. Due to the higher literacy rates more people read the newspaper and as a result raised awareness for the extension of reform into other aspects of American life. Child labor laws, health and safety regulation, civil rights court cases all started to take hold in the United States by 1910. All of this affected the economy in 1910. People were feeling opitmistic about their society which in turn strengthened the economy. Progressivism touched all aspects of American society, the idea that humanity and industry could somehow live side by side became a possibility during the first decade of the 20th century.
