At the northwest area of Turkey, there is what looks to be a lake. It is called the Sea of Marmara. (In English, this means "The Marble Sea" which gets its name from the marble quarries on Marmara Island which is in the sea.) It is not a lake but rather a large body of water pierced at the east and the west by two thin waterways, or straits. The western strait is is called the Dadanelles, which leads from the Aegean Sea into the Sea of Marmara. The eastern strait is called the Bosphorus strait, and it leads from the Sea of Marmara into the Black Sea.
