During this era, many inventions and strategies were created to create more productivity.  For example, the Lowell Factory system created the set-up of steam powered machines that could produce multiple products in a short period of time.  Since productivity was increasing and population was increasing, the factory businesses created long working days with short breaks to squeeze as much out of their workers as possible.  The factory system was certainly a boost for the economy, but a hardship on family life.
