See in history we learned our "natural rights". and I was wondering "How can the gov. take some of them away". Its truly mind boggling to me and if any one can help it would be so sweet and nice ^_^

I guess the question would be which of your natural rights you think the government has taken away.

Typically, the natural rights the government is supposed to protect are listed as life, liberty and property.  These are said to be our most fundamental rights.

According to political philosophers, we kind of make a deal with the government.  In exchange for it protecting our most fundamental rights, we give up some of our less important rights.

Now, there's room for argument here as to what constitutes a less important right and what constitutes a fundamental right.  Obviously, the government takes away some of our liberties (the liberty to use drugs, for example) but does not take away more important (to me) liberties like the liberty to choose where I want to live, what job I want to do, how many kids I want to have, what religion I want to belong to, etc).

So I guess I'd be interested in knowing which rights you think the government has taken away from you.  It would be interesting...

BTW -- many more rights are taken away from younger people, especially at school.  That's a different set of ideas than what I've just been talking about.

The purpose of government is to safeguard rights.  Among these, as Jefferson wrote, are life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. There's a limitless list of these Natural Rights. An individual gains these rights by virtue of being born. Nothing can alter, restrict, ration, or remove them, despite what the government or others may assert.  Government has no power over rights. The United States was founded on the principle of an individual's Natural Rights.

Freedom is the execise of one's Natural Rights. An individual may exercise what rights he or she chooses; in short, you may do or say anything you wish, as long as you do not intefere with the rights of another.

The presumption that some individuals will violate another individual's rights is the reason we have laws.  If laws are broken, a perpetrator's rights are still intact, but his or her freedom may be restricted. So the government, when specified by law, is empowered to restrict an individual's freedom.  So if I feel like assaulting and robbing you, and I do so, I have violated your rights to life and property, and the law provides for the restriction of my freedom by throwing me in jail, and possibly forcing me to make restitution against my will.

Before we start discussing the issue of government or anyone else taking away our natural rights, it is worthwhile understanding, how we obtain these rights. It is important to note that these natural rights, described also as fundamental rights, or rights guaranteed under the constitution, are not given to us nature, or even by god. The nature follows only the rule of "might is right" neither people nor any other animals have any rights to things like life, equality, freedom of speech, or to carry a gun. For those who believe in God, know that whatever we receive in life is a gift given to us by a compassionate God. In front of God we cannot demand anything as right, and most certainly fight for our rights. Those up us who have faith in God, find no reason to complain about God because we consider God as merciful and caring. Not because God has given us any rights.

Then who or what has given us these so called natural rights. Just a minute or two of serious though will make it clear that all our natural or fundamental rights flow from the constitution of our respective countries. It is important to note that though there may be many similarities in the basic rights guaranteed under different constitutions, there are many differences. This indicates that these rights are created by respective framers of the constitutions rather than by some super entity like nature.

Constitutions, not only define rights, but they also define the character, rights, and limitations of government, that is intended to implement the provision of government for the common good of the people. Among other things, constitutions, describe the powers of government to restrict and regulate individual rights to secure the common good. Unless the government is empowered to do so there will be nor rule of law. The rights of people described in the Constitution will have no sanctity, and anarchy will prevail.

Thus in conclusion we can say that the government gets its power to take away our natural rights from the same constitution which gives us these right in the first place. The government is given such power only to prevent misuse of individual rights that hurt the common rights and interest of the people.

OK thank you pohnpei397  the gov. does take away more rights are taken away from younger people (like me!), especially at school.  i mean i hate school and all but i mean if there taking more and more rights away from kid at school (Aegean like me, miners! who really only have the 3 rights, Natural rights) 

And i do know that having a gov. you do have to give up some rights. My history teacher is great at talking about this.. but i want to know more about this.... I'm a miner that really hates affinity and government... ( i really do)

Oh pohnpei397  The rights i thunk the gov. takes away from you is basically a little of 2 of the Natural Rights, liberty and property. ( and I'm share a lot more but I'm just sticking with our Natural rights).

Some of your rights that have already been lost include things like in some states you can't use a cell phone when driving. You can't drive a car without using a seatbelt. You can't smoke in a public place, and many more.

In some cities you can't eat what you want because the goverment has decided to ban certain things like transfat in oils used to prepare some foods.

In some places its against the law to drink on Sundays, or buy a car on Sundays, or ...

Our rights in America are the rights given by God. These rights are considered to be inalienable. They can't be taken away because we are Americans. This form of government has been proven over the first 233 years of our existence to be the best ever in the history of the world.

There are many people in our country, however, who are trying to change our form of government to one where all of our rights are given by the government. This is called tyranny. The chief tyrant currently lives in the White House. This president believes that because he won the last election he has the right to do whatever he wants. Including raising taxes on the rich. He believes he has the right to take over private businesses. He belives he has the right to force people to purchase insurance. He belives he has the right to limit the pay of private citizens. He believes he has the right to tax companies because he tells people that these companies are contributing to global warming (which doesn't exist). He believes that he has the right to take money and other assets from some people to give to other people.

Your rights are being taken away on a daily basis and if government-controlled healthcare passes into law, you will lose your right to chose your own destiny. You will lose your right to get treatment when you need it. You will lose your right to live a long life if you get sick when you are older.

The country your parents, grandparents, great-grand parents, and other ancestors grew up in will be gone shortly.

Unless you start learning the truth about this government, and how they are stealing your rights, you will never have the freedom to do what you want, when you want, where you want, and how you want. The government will tell you where to work, when to work, how to work, and you will lose all of your rights and freedoms in exchange for the government providing a subsistence living.

If you don't believe that, ask someone who lives in Cuba, or the old Soviet Union, or the former East Germany, and China, or any of the other countries in the world where socialism and communism have been tried and have failed miserably.

Countries in Europe, which have had a history of Socialism, are switching to capitalism, because they've seen how well it works in America. The strange thing is, the Tyrrant in Chief, is driving our country towards Socialism and Communism. This may ensure that his way of thinking keeps him and his comrades in power for a very long time, because people who get their food, housing, healthcare, and every other facet of their life from the government won't vote against the free handouts.

The basic right you are most in danger of losing is your right to be free. Freedom is the most imporant right. When the government gives you what you need, you become a slave to the government. They don't want you work hard, be creative, or know what freedom is.
