I think that Thomas Paine is a fairly powerful and compelling topic. Truly, he is an unappreciated political giant of American thought. Try some of these sites for information: http://www.ushistory.org/PAINE/ http://www.historyguide.org/intellect/paine.html http://www.let.rug.nl/usa/B/tpaine/paine.htm Posted by akannan on Sep 15, 2009. |

Thomas Paine was at the very least an unconventional founding father. Born on British soil Thomas Paine tried to gain prosperity, unfortunately he never achieved prosperity in Britain. His decision to come to America, to start anew would be forever tied to America's cry for independence. Witness to the injustices the crown imposed upon the colonies, Thomas Paine wrote 'Common Sense' so that 'the people' could understand the abusive nature of the Parliamentary acts imposed upon them. Many historians conclude that 'Common Sense' played an important role in colonial independence from England. The following sites offer extended information on the life of Thomas Paine. http://www.americanwriters.org/places/paine http://www.press-pubs.uchicago.edu/founders/documents Posted by dbello on Sep 19, 2009. |
